Ardent Tyre Test Results
If you’re looking for mountain bike cycle tyres and you’re not sure which tyres to choose, you can always look to tyre tests for the answer.
Bike Radar
BikeRadar.com reviewed the Maxxis Ardent in 2015 and were very happy with their test.
“Fast and very user friendly big volume all-rounder for a surprising amount of the year. Maxxis’ Ardent isn’t a heavily reinforced ‘enduro’ tyre but it’s significantly tougher than most XC tyres of a similar speed. The EXO carcass version adds a bit more protection than standard without affecting the smooth rolling, rock shrugging ride too. It’s also taller than most 2.25in tyres so there’s more to cushion the blows from blocks and drops. The 24in versions are massive. They’re also some of the easiest to set up tubeless, sealing onto most rums with just a few seconds of track pump action.
The dual compound tread is broad and flat for easy rolling but there’s still enough bite to brake and get power down reliably most of the year at the back and even on the front in summer. Bigger, softer side knobs mean you can corner with reasonable confidence too.”

Tread Bikely
TreadBikely.com have ridden the Maxxis Ardent for many years and decided to put their thoughts down for other riders to draw advice from.
“I’ve ridden the Maxxis Ardent TR EXO tyres thousands of miles over the past three cycling seasons, both front and rear, on all types of surfaces and terrain, and in all conditions. And overall, I’ve really enjoyed my time on the tyres. So much, in fact, that I decided to replace my worn out rear Ardent with a fresh one this past March. I’ve found they provide dependable traction in a variety of scenarios, are extremely puncture resistant, easy to fit, and comfortable.”

EverydayMTB
Everyday MTB features an article dedicated to the testing of the Maxxis Ardent tyre:
“The first thing I noticed when I got on the Maxxis Ardents was how much faster my bike felt immediately. These tyres definitely roll a whole lot faster than the stock tyres that came with my bike. Sections of trail that I previously found myself pedalling on I could now pump effectively to keep speed… If you are looking for a tyre that will prioritise rolling resistance and weight while being able to handle most trail conditions, I’d give the Ardent a try. Depending on your riding style, you may find you need something different up front, but I have found it to be a solid, dependable tyre.”

Outdoor Gear Lab
Outdoor Gear Lab have elected the Maxxis Ardent tyre as their top pick for XC (cross-country) trail riding.
“The Maxxis Ardent EXO is an excellent choice for the rider looking for a fast-rolling, efficient and lightweight tyre for XC style riding. If we rode great dirt conditions all the time, we wouldn’t hesitate to mount this tyre up on the front, rear, or both ends of our efficient mid-travel mountain bikes. The Ardent has a relatively low-profile tread design that testers found to be especially fast-rolling, with a relatively lightweight considering the 29” x 2.4” size we tested. In the right conditions, we also found it to provide good braking traction and predictable cornering abilities. We were also impressed by the durability of the tread and the robust EXO casing. This is not, however, the best choice for super aggressive riders or loose conditions, but we feel it is a great option for lots of riders and terrain.”

Ardent Tyre Reviews
Sometimes the best reviews come from riders just like you. Take a look at our user reviews below.
Rider, ChainReactionCycles.com, February 2020:
“Had this tyre just over a month and have never had any issues with it. I haven’t had any punctures since installing these, grippy enough for the average downhill trail but not more than that. Would definitely recommend.”
Rider, ChainReactionCycles.com, April 2019:
“Good tyres, last a long time, good tread and Maxxis solid.”
Rider, ChainReactionCycles.com, March 2018:
“Bought a pair for my Giant Trance X2 2010 for front and rear. Great rolling resistance and awesome side tyre grip. Will definitely get again!”
Rider, ChainReactionCycles.com, May 2017:
“I bought these because I was slipping around and crashing more and more with the tyres I had on and these have boosted my confidence 10 fold, I ride fast and don’t think about the bend or the rock garden, just enjoy the ride, they grip so well, even at low pressures they are hard-wearing and very good value. Get out and ride and enjoy.”
Rider, ChainReactionCycles.com, April 2017:
“Done 200 miles on a set of these so far, 80% of that on trails and the rest commuting. I am not fussed about tyre performance for commuting although these are good for it… On the trails though these are awesome tyres! Fast and grippy enough to keep control, my local trails have a rep for having a slippery surface, but I’ve not had one incident or even come close with these tyres and I don’t hang about. No punctures, no rim strikes and no pinch flats. I’m 75kgs and run these at 26/27 psi without any problems at all. My bike came with Kendal Slant 6s on from factory and the Ardents blow them out of the water. I’d recommend these to anyone.”
